Liverpool close in on significant transfer landmark as Ben Doak sale to Bournemouth confirmed

Liverpool near significant financial landmark as Doak sale to Bournemouth confirmed

Bournemouth have confirmed the signing of Scottish winger Ben Doak from Liverpool in a deal worth a reported £25m.

The 19-year-old arrives at the Vitality Stadium after an underwhelming three years at Anfield, where he played just 10 times for the senior team and failed to register a single goal or assist.

Doak was just 16 years old when he joined the Reds from Celtic in 2022, but his path to the first team was blocked by the likes of Mohamed Salah, Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa.

The 2005-born winger nevertheless enjoyed a productive loan spell with Middlesbrough last season, coming up with three goals and seven assists in 24 matches as Michael Carrick's side just missed out on a spot in the playoffs.

Following reports that a £25m deal between Liverpool and Bournemouth was in the works, the Cherries have now confirmed the arrival of Doak, who will wear the number 11 shirt and could make his debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend.

Doak "could not say no" to Bournemouth move as Liverpool transfer confirmed

"I’m buzzing to be here," Doak told the official Bournemouth website. "I feel like it’s the right time for me and it’s a great opportunity to play regular football at the highest level. It feels like the perfect fit.

"The team play very nice football. It’s fast and it really suits my game, so I felt like I couldn’t say no to the chance to play here."

Meanwhile, Bournemouth's Head of Football Operations Tiago Pinto also hailed Doak as a player who could make a key difference, adding: "Ben is an exciting young talent who has shown his quality at the highest level despite his age.

“He brings pace and energy that will fit our model well and we’re thoroughly looking forward to helping him fulfil his potential at AFC Bournemouth. We’re pleased to bring another player into the club during this window as we continue to reinvest in the squad."

Doak arrives on the South Coast shortly after the £42.5m sale of Dango Ouattara to Brentford, while Luis Sinisterra is believed to be in talks over joining Brazilian side Cruzeiro on loan.

Doak leaves Liverpool - How much money have the Reds made this summer?

Now that Doak is off the books, Liverpool's coffers have been boosted by a staggering £190m through player sales this summer, and the Scottish attacker is the eighth to depart for a fee.

Since the start of July, Jarell Quansah (£30m), Luis Diaz (£60m), Tyler Morton (£10m), Darwin Nunez (£46m) and Doak (£20m rising to £25m) have been offloaded, prior to which Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Nat Phillips also brought in some money.

Add-ons will almost certainly take that total over the £200m line, although Liverpool could hit that significant financial mark with just one more summer sale, as Doak's fellow attacker Elliott could still seek out a new club before the transfer deadline.

Whether some of those funds will be reinvested on an Alexander Isak remains to be seen, but the Reds have apparently been handed a boost in their efforts to sign Real Madrid's Rodrygo, as one of their Premier League rivals have pulled out of the race for the Brazilian.
