Liverpool 'eyeing up Mignolet replacement'

Liverpool have reportedly commenced their search for a new second-choice goalkeeper after Simon Mignolet completed a move to Belgian side Club Brugge over the weekend.

The 31-year-old, who moved to Anfield from Sunderland in 2013, flew to his homeland on Sunday evening after Liverpool negotiated a transfer worth £6.4m rising to £8.2m with add-ons.

Mignolet only made two appearances for the Reds last season, with Alisson Becker enjoying a strong debut campaign, and wants a move which will safeguard his place in the Belgium squad.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp's side will land another second-choice keeper before the transfer deadline on Thursday.

Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy is thought to be the favourite for the position after the 29-year-old was omitted from the Saints' squad for their pre-season meeting with FC Koln on Saturday.

Liverpool have had a relatively quiet summer, completing deals for youngsters Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliot.
