In recent days, a rumour has been heating up the transfer market. Liverpool are reportedly considering Michael Olise as a potential successor to Mohamed Salah. But is the Frenchman capable of replacing the Egyptian superstar?
By joining Bayern Munich last summer, Olise clearly took a major step in his career. He is now regarded as one of the best players in the world and is clearly aiming for a regular spot with the France national team. His rapid progression has not gone unnoticed, and according to Mail Sport, Liverpool are considering signing the French winger to replace Mohamed Salah.
A Premier League return for Olise?
Although Michael Olise now wears the France shirt, he was born in England and grew up in London. Since 2019, he has consistently represented France at youth levels and the senior team. Nevertheless, he likely retains a special connection to the UK.
After making his professional debut in the Championship with Reading, Olise broke through at Crystal Palace. His transfer to Bayern Munich left Premier League followers disappointed.
Now that Liverpool are interested in the 23-year-old, a triumphant return to the Premier League is not out of the question. Returning to his roots at one of the league’s most ambitious and competitive clubs would be a perfect fit.
The transfer is not immediate, as Mohamed Salah is still performing at a very high level. But the 33-year-old Egyptian is not eternal, and the Reds see Olise as the ideal successor to the Pharaoh.
Olise to Liverpool: A high-pressure transfer
Joining Liverpool would be the perfect opportunity for Olise to take centre stage in the Premier League. But stepping into Mohamed Salah’s shoes is far from easy.
The number 11 is Liverpool’s star man and one of the most consistent players in England since 2017. A two-time Premier League winner, Salah has established himself as one of the club’s greatest ever players.
Replacing such a figure will undoubtedly place immense pressure on Olise’s shoulders. However, the Bayern Munich winger appears unfazed by pressure and fits the profile Liverpool are seeking: a left-footed player on the right wing who likes to cut inside and can destabilise any defence.
Moreover, Olise is a team-oriented player with a wide technical range and excellent delivery for teammates.
Olise to Liverpool: The big move in 2027?
The question remains when Liverpool will make their move. The English giants have just completed a historic transfer window, spending nearly £450m million, including on three high-profile attacking signings (Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak). Liverpool will likely take a breather next summer.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah has enjoyed another excellent season and has extended his contract until June 2027. By then, he will be 35, and it will likely be the right moment to say goodbye to the fans.
Olise still needs to improve in certain areas, particularly finishing, where he cannot yet match Salah. But playing in a World Cup with France and becoming a key figure at Bayern Munich will help him mature, potentially allowing him to take on the right-wing role at Liverpool.
The Reds will need to spend big: Olise is currently valued at €100m (£87m), and his price could rise even further in the next two years.
