Manchester City winger Leroy Sane wants 2019-20 season to be completed

Manchester City winger Leroy Sane acknowledges that somehow finishing the 2019-20 season would be "the fairest thing to do", despite his side trailing Liverpool.

Manchester City winger Leroy Sane has acknowledged that completing the 2019-20 campaign would be "the fairest thing to do".

Pep Guardiola's side went into the enforced break trailing Liverpool by 25 points, and if the season is completed then it looks certain that they will be dethroned as champions.

The prospect of the campaign being declared null and void - and Man City therefore remaining champions - has not yet been entirely ruled out, but Sane wants to see it fulfilled "somehow".

"You read something different every day and not even the experts agree on this, so it's difficult for me to make an assessment," he told the German FA's official website.

"All I can say is that I really miss football and want to be back on the pitch as soon as possible. We have no choice but to trust the experts and to be ready for when we are told to start again.

"If it does continue then it will probably be behind closed doors. But that would also be fine. It's important that we find solutions, without taking people's health lightly. Purely from a sporting point of view, it would of course be the fairest thing to do if the season was still somehow finished."

Sane, who has not featured since suffering a serious knee ligament injury in the Community Shield in August, continues to be linked with a move to Bayern Munich when the transfer window reopens.
