How Liverpool could line up against Burnley

How Liverpool could line up against Burnley

Liverpool welcome Burnley to Anfield on Sunday knowing that only a return to winning ways will be enough to get their title challenge firmly back on track.

A 0-0 draw with Everton in the Merseyside derby last weekend - their third goalless stalemate in four games - saw them knocked off top spot with nine games of the campaign remaining, and they could find themselves four points adrift of Manchester City by the time they kick a ball this weekend with the champions in action on Saturday.

Liverpool have now drawn four of their last six Premier League games, but three of those have been away from home and at Anfield they have dropped only four points all season.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Jurgen Klopp could line his side up for this match.

Out: Joe Gomez (ankle), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee) Doubt: James Milner (muscle), Dejan Lovren (hamstring)

Klopp revealed that Dejan Lovren is no longer injured, but did cast doubt over whether he is yet match fit and so the Croatian's involvement this weekend may be limited to a substitute appearance at most.

Joel Matip will therefore continue alongside the imperious Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the defence, and it could be a largely unchanged team from the one which started at Goodison Park.

The one major switch will be Roberto Firmino's return to the starting XI in place of Divock Origi, which in turn will see Sadio Mane switch back out to the left flank.

Mohamed Salah will continue his quest for his 50th Premier League goal for Liverpool, while captain Jordan Henderson will be hopeful of another start ahead of Naby Keita and James Milner, the latter of whom is a doubt due to a slight muscle problem.

There is also positive news on the fitness of long-term absentee Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who will mark a major milestone in his recovery by turning out for the Under-23 side.
