Team News: Daniel Sturridge returns for Liverpool

Sturridge returns for Liverpool

Daniel Sturridge has been restored to the Liverpool starting lineup for their first home game of the Premier League season against champions Leicester City.

The England striker makes just his second league start of the campaign, coming in for Philippe Coutinho, who drops to the bench having been away with Brazil during the international break.

That is one of just two changes made by Jurgen Klopp for Liverpool's first match under the new Main Stand at Anfield, with Lucas Leiva filling in at centre-back alongside Joel Matip.

Dejan Lovren drops out, while out-of-favour Mamadou Sakho is once again omitted and Ragnar Klavan has to settle for a place on the bench having picked up a knee injury while on international duty.

Summer signing Loris Karius is included on the bench having recently returned to training following a broken hand, but Simon Mignolet retains the number one jersey.

Champions Leicester, meanwhile, name an unchanged team from the one that beat Swansea City before the international break as Jamie Vardy and Shinji Okazaki lead the line.

Ahmed Musa has to settle for as place on the bench once again, while deadline-day arrival Islam Slimani misses out altogether.

Liverpool: Mignolet; Clyne, Matip, Lucas, Milner; Wijnaldum, Henderson, Lallana; Mane, Firmino, Sturridge Subs: Karius, Klavan, Moreno, Stewart, Grujic, Coutinho, Origi

Leicester City: Schmeichel; Simpson, Huth, Morgan, Fuchs; Mahrez, Drinkwater, Amartey, Albrighton; Okazaki, Vardy Subs: Hernández, Chilwell, Musa, King, Zieler, Gray, Ulloa
