How Liverpool could line up against Aston Villa

Liverpool fans are anxiously waiting to learn whether left-back Andy Robertson will be involved in Monday's Premier League clash against Aston Villa at Villa Park.

The Scotland international was nowhere to be seen in the Reds' most recent set of training images, although he was present at Liverpool's Kirkby training base on Friday, so his availability for the Reds' last away game of the term should not be in any danger.

That is more than can be said for Diogo Jota, whose hip problem is not expected to clear up in time for this one, while Ben Doak (knee), Bobby Clark (unspecified), Thiago Alcantara (muscle) and Joel Matip (knee) are all out for the season.

Kostas Tsimikas and Joe Gomez are both competent options to step in for Robertson if need be, but the Scotsman will seemingly be fine to take up his usual position in a likely unaltered backline.

Jarell Quansah has surely done enough to reprise his role over Ibrahima Konate alongside Virgil van Dijk, who will be shielding Alisson Becker alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold, unless Conor Bradley is given a run-out with little on the line.

A man-of-the-match performance from Harvey Elliott against Tottenham Hotspur should be his ticket to another start on Monday, where Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo ought to complete the midfield trident with the Englishman.

Scoring one and setting up another versus Spurs, Mohamed Salah has now provided a goal and assist in 31 separate Premier League games and could now draw level with Thierry Henry (32) for the second-most all-time behind Wayne Rooney (36).

The Egyptian and Luis Diaz are attacking shoo-ins, and Cody Gakpo's productive afternoon last weekend should see the Dutchman keep Darwin Nunez at bay after the South American deleted almost every Liverpool-related post from his Instagram.

Liverpool possible starting lineup: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Quansah, Van Dijk, Robertson; Elliott, Endo, Mac Allister; Salah, Gakpo, Diaz
