Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel hits out at Football Association charge?

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel appears to label the FA 'clowns' following his charge for violent conduct.

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has seemingly hit out at the Football Association following his charge for violent conduct.

The Slovakian centre-back was involved in an angry exchange with Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea in the dying stages of Liverpool's 2-1 defeat to their bitter rivals at Anfield on Sunday.

Skrtel appeared to leave a foot in when attempting to reach a through-ball in the final seconds of the match, catching De Gea with his studs.

Referee Martin Atkinson did not see the incident, which allowed the FA to charge the Liverpool man, who faces a three-game suspension if found guilty.

In response, Skrtel appears to have taken a thinly-veiled dig at the governing body on Instagram, uploading a picture of three clowns that many have interpreted as representing the FA.

Skrtel, who claims that the contact was accidental, would miss matches against Arsenal, Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United if the charge is upheld.
