Davide Santon: 'Newcastle United could upset Liverpool'

Newcastle United defender David Santon says last season's 6-0 defeat at home to Liverpool is irrelevant ahead of the Reds' visit on Saturday.

Newcastle United defender Davide Santon feels that last season's 6-0 defeat at home to Liverpool will have no bearing on their game on Saturday.

The Magpies entertain the Reds in the day's early kickoff, and the Italian defender believes that the thrashing they received back in April is irrelevant this time round.

"It was a difficult period for us. We were in a difficult position in the league, and we needed a win, But we lost 6-0 at home. It was really difficult, especially for our mentality," Santon told the Shields Gazette.

"It's finished now. We have to think about this season. We can compete with every team. We're not scared about anything.

"Every game is a tough game. Liverpool have been good. But we'll see what happens. In the Premier League, you never know."

Alan Pardew's side are currently 11th in the Premier League.
