Owen still 'Liverpool player at heart'

Michael Owen has claimed that he still sees himself as a Liverpool player as he gets ready to don the red jersey once more.

The former England striker will feature for Liverpool FC Legends this afternoon when they face Real Madrid Legends at the Bernabeu.

Owen scored 179 goals in 306 appearances for Liverpool, and still regards himself as a Red despite moving to Madrid and joining rivals Manchester United later in his career.

He told Liverpool Echo: "It's always great to put on the red shirt. I've said many times before I still associate myself [with Liverpool], when I look back.

"If someone asked me to name one team that I played for throughout my career, I see myself as a Liverpool player."

During his time with Madrid, Owen scored 19 times in 43 appearances for the Spanish giants.
