Jamie Carragher backs Liverpool resurgence

Jamie Carragher says that Liverpool are gradually rediscovering their best form after a dismal opening four months of the season.

Liverpool are slowly but surely recapturing the form that took the Reds to the brink of Premier League glory last season, according to Jamie Carragher.

Brendan Rodgers's side have so far failed to build on an encouraging 2013-14 campaign, with the Merseysiders 10th in the table at Christmas - 20 points behind leaders Chelsea.

Last season's runners-up have displayed signs of a resurgence lately, though, as they beat Bournemouth 3-1 in the League Cup last week, before dominating Arsenal but having to settle for a point in Sunday's 2-2 draw.

"For most the season, Liverpool have been toothless in every area, but at the moment they're toothless in both boxes, which are the most important places on a football pitch," the ex-Reds defender told Sky Sports News.

"But between the two boxes however, from what I saw, that performance [against the Gunners] was a sign of what I saw from Liverpool last season.

"Fast possession, people running forward and penetration... but there are still problems in the boxes."

Rodgers and co have won just two of their last nine league outings.
