Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard ,along with five other teammates, will miss the first leg of the Reds' pre-season tour of North America.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will be absent for the first half of the Reds' pre-season tour of North America.

The 32-year-old will not be required to join up with the Merseyside club for their opening friendly against Major League Soccer side Toronto in Canada on July 21.

Along with Gerrard, Glen Johnson, Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson and Martin Kelly will also not travel with the squad due to their excursions with the England national team at Euro 2012.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is expected to welcome back the six members of his team in Boston in time for the Premier League side's friendlies against Roma and Tottenham Hotspur on July 25 and 28 respectively.
