Philippe Coutinho: 'Jurgen Klopp is steering Liverpool in the right direction'

Philippe Coutinho says that Liverpool are moving in the "right direction" under manager Jurgen Klopp.

Philippe Coutinho has claimed that Liverpool are improving under new manager Jurgen Klopp.

The German coach, who replaced Brendan Rodgers in October, has had an inconsistent start to his career at Anfield.

A Champions League spot seems out of reach as the Reds are currently nine points adrift of fourth, but they remain contenders in the Europa League and could pick up the first trophy of the season if they defeat Manchester City in the Capital One Cup final this Sunday.

"[Klopp] created a highly successful side at Borussia Dortmund and it is great for Liverpool to have him," Coutinho told World Soccer magazine. "In training, we are working hard and enjoying his methods, which are helping to make us better players.

"Little by little, it is translating to matches and I think everyone has seen how effective his philosophy can be if we adapt it in the right way. It feels like we are moving in the right direction under him and we believe we can fight for the big prizes and enjoy some special moments with the fans."

Before Sunday's final at Wembley, Liverpool will take on Augsburg in the second leg of their last-32 Europa League tie at Anfield.

It is all to play for as the first leg in Germany ended goalless.
