Jamie Carragher: 'Jurgen Klopp will need to make signings at Liverpool'

Jamie Carragher believes that incoming Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will need to make signings in January to stamp his own ethos on the club.

Jamie Carragher has revealed that he believes incoming Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will need to make additions to the club in January to push for a Champions League place.

The 48-year-old is expected to be announced as the successor to Brendan Rodgers at Anfield tomorrow morning after reportedly penning a three-year deal with the Merseysiders.

Carragher feels that Klopp will need to make signings to improve the quality of the Liverpool squad and stamp his own ethos on the club.

The former Reds defenders told Sky Sports News: "He's certainly come with a fantastic CV. He needs to [make signings]. I don't know if he's been promised funds, but Liverpool spent a lot of money in the summer.

"The owners are not Roman Abramovich types. A lot of the club's money for this season may have been spent [already], and it may be next summer when he can get the players he really wants.

"January is always a difficult time. But if he can get one or two players in that he thinks can push Liverpool on, I'm sure the club would allow him to do that. When a manager is talking to a club about joining, he absolutely wants to bring in his own players because things have not been going well."

Liverpool have also confirmed that the club's backroom from Rodgers's reign have been relieved of their duties, although Gary McAllister will remain in ambassadorial role.
