Jamie Carragher says that he feels "sorry" for Kenny Dalglish following his sacking but insists that he will get behind the new manager.

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has expressed his sadness over Kenny Dalglish's sacking from the Merseyside club.

An eighth-place finish in the Premier League this season sparked the end for the Scottish boss, who was dismissed from his post at Anfield yesterday.

"I spoke to [Dalglish] just before he was getting on his flight and asked, 'Is it Kenny now or gaffer?'. He said 'It is Kenny now'," explained Carragher.

"I am sorry to see him go, but that is football. It is a sad day for him, but we respect the owner's decision and we have to look forward now. I will be fully committed to whoever the manager is."

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has insisted that the Reds will not rush the appointment of a new boss.
