Josep Maria Bartomeu: 'Right time for Luis Suarez to move'

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu believes that this summer was the "right time" for Luis Suarez to join the club.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has expressed his belief that Luis Suarez chose the "right time" to move to the Camp Nou.

The Uruguayan striker joined the Spanish giants earlier this summer for a reported fee of £75m, having set the Premier League alight during his final season with Liverpool.

The move did come under question during the summer as Suarez was handed a four-month ban for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini, but Bartomeu is confident that the deal has been made at the opportune moment.

"When we approached Suarez, it was before the World Cup. We told him that he had the right age. He had the experience. Playing at Liverpool give him incredible performance also. And it was the right time for him to come to our club, to Barcelona," he told CNN.

"We knew from a lot of years ago that Luis Suarez likes our club, likes our city. And we have the advantage. His agent is Pep Guardiola's brother.

"He's from Barca in his heart, also, so everything was perfect and created the perfect atmosphere that Luis Suarez accepted. And we know that he had better offers than our offer but he came to Barcelona."

Suarez will not be available to play for Barcelona until October due to his suspension.
