Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Arsenal

Liverpool injury, suspension list vs. Arsenal

Since this article was published, this game has been called off due to a coronavirus outbreak in the Liverpool squad. The first leg is now due to take place on January 13 at Anfield.

Liverpool prepare for another journey to the capital on Thursday night to face Arsenal in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final at the Emirates Stadium.

The Reds threw away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Chelsea in Sunday's Premier League game and remain 11 points behind runaway leaders Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp's depleted side had to do it the hard way to reach the final four of this tournament, overcoming Leicester City on penalties after a 3-3 stalemate.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the first leg.

Alisson Becker

Status: Out Type of injury: Coronavirus Possible return date: Unknown

Liverpool will be without first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker for this game due to a positive COVID-19 test, but Caoimhin Kelleher would have expected to get the nod in goal anyway.

Joel Matip

Status: Out Type of injury: Coronavirus Possible return date: Unknown

Joel Matip also returned a positive COVID-19 test before the draw with Chelsea and will not be at Klopp's disposal for the first leg.

Roberto Firmino

Status: Out Type of injury: Coronavirus Possible return date: Unknown

Roberto Firmino represented the third COVID-positive Liverpool player to miss out at the weekend, and the Brazilian will not return from self-isolation in time for Thursday.

Nat Phillips

Status: Out Type of injury: Cheek Possible return date: January 16 (vs. Brentford)

Nat Phillips suffered a fractured cheekbone against AC Milan in the Champions League last month and is expected to spend another couple of weeks on the sidelines.

Harvey Elliott

Status: Out Type of injury: Ankle Possible return date: Unknown

Harvey Elliott continues to make great strides in his recovery from a serious ankle injury but is still some weeks away from returning to action.

Divock Origi

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: January 6 (vs. Arsenal)

Divock Origi picked up a knee injury in training last month and was not ready to return against Chelsea, so a comeback in midweek is extremely unlikely.

Thiago Alcantara

Status: Out Type of injury: Hip Possible return date: Unknown

Klopp revealed before the Chelsea game that Thiago Alcantara is nursing a hip issue which the club will have to be "patient" with, so the Spaniard is expected to miss out here.

Takumi Minamino

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Muscle fatigue Possible return date: January 6 (vs. Arsenal)

Takumi Minamino was running on the outdoor training pitches before the Chelsea clash but did not make the cut, and he is facing a race against time to prove his fitness for Thursday.

Mohamed Salah

Status: Out Type of injury: International duty Possible return date: Unknown

Mohamed Salah has now linked up with the Egypt team for the Africa Cup of Nations and will not be available to Liverpool while his country compete at the tournament.

Sadio Mane

Status: Out Type of injury: International duty Possible return date: Unknown

Sadio Mane has now linked up with the Senegal team for the Africa Cup of Nations and will not be available to Liverpool while his country compete at the tournament.

Naby Keita

Status: Out Type of injury: International duty Possible return date: Unknown

Naby Keita has now linked up with the Guinea team for the Africa Cup of Nations and will not be available to Liverpool while his country compete at the tournament.

LIVERPOOL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Liverpool have no players suspended for this game, with Andy Robertson now back from his three-match ban.
