Liverpool 'hopeful Joe Gomez will play again this season'

England and Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has been given hope by specialists that he will play again before the end of the season, according to a report.

Liverpool are reportedly hopeful that centre-back Joe Gomez will recover from the knee injury sustained on England duty to play again before the end of the season.

The 23-year-old twisted his knee during a training session at St George's Park on Wednesday with nobody around him.

Gomez is believed to have thought the worst ahead of having a scan, fearing that he would miss the rest of 2020-21 for Liverpool and England.

However, Sky Sports News claims that the defender has been given hope by specialists that he will not necessarily be out until next season.

The report indicates that Gomez could feature in the tail end of the campaign and therefore be in contention for Euro 2020 next summer.

Liverpool are already without fellow defender Virgil van Dijk for the next nine months or so after he damaged his knee ligaments in October, leaving Joel Matip as Jurgen Klopp's only fit senior centre-back.
