A report claims that Joe Gomez may not feature for Liverpool or England again until next season as a result of the injury sustained on international duty.

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez reportedly fears that he will miss the remainder of the 2020-21 campaign after sustaining a knee injury on England duty.

The Reds confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that Gomez had returned to the club as a result of the non-contact injury suffered in Three Lions training earlier that day.

England boss Gareth Southgate was unwilling to speculate on the length of the 23-year-old's likely absence, but he did reveal that the centre-back was "in a fair bit of pain".

According to The Mirror, Liverpool's worst fears may be realised when Gomez undergoes a scan as the ex-Charlton Athletic man is facing a substantial length of time on the sidelines.

As well as missing the remainder of the campaign, it is suggested that Gomez may also play no part in next year's rescheduled Euro 2020 finals.

Liverpool are already without fellow defender Virgil van Dijk until next season after he damaged his knee ligaments last month, leaving Joel Matip as Jurgen Klopp's only fit senior centre-back.
