Klopp delivers Matip, Becker, Jota injury update

Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on the fitness of Joel Matip, Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota ahead of Wednesday's Premier League clash with Sheffield United.

Liverpool extended their unbeaten Premier League run to seven matches with a dramatic 4-3 victory over Fulham on Sunday.

Although they managed to claim all three points, the Reds were unable to come through the seven-goal thriller unscathed.

Matip, who has started nine of his 14 league appearances this season, picked up an injury issue in the second half and had to be replaced by Ibrahima Konate.

While Liverpool are still waiting to discover the extent of Matip's injury, Klopp confirmed the centre-back is set for a spell on the sidelines at his pre-match press conference.

When asked about a potential timeframe for Matip's recovery, Klopp told reporters: "No, I don't know exactly but it doesn't look good, that's something we can say.

"That is something we can say. The scan is not done yet so we don't know exactly but it is not great. From the first minute it was clear. I spoke to him and said: 'Ah no, that is not good'. But how long [he will be injured for], we don't know."

The Liverpool boss also provided an update on the recoveries of Alisson and Jota, who have been sidelined since last month's 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

"Diogo was running yesterday (Monday) outside, on his birthday and everything is going in the right direction but no-one told me he will be back in team training. It will be some time. Obviously Alisson is closer but not for tomorrow, definitely"

With Alisson set to miss out again, Republic of Ireland international Caoimhin Kelleher will start a third consecutive game in all competitions.

The Reds are also without the services of defender Andrew Robertson and the midfield duo of Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic.

Although Liverpool will be heavy favourites for Wednesday's contest, they will be wary of a potential new manager bounce from Sheffield United following the re-appointment of Chris Wilder after Paul Heckingbottom was relieved of his duties.

Having picked up 31 points from 14 matches, the Reds are currently sitting in second place and two points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.
