Crystal Palace injury news: Marc Guehi, Adam Wharton updates delivered by Oliver Glasner before Wolves, Liverpool games

Guehi, Wharton injury updates delivered by Glasner before Wolves, Liverpool games

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has provided an update on the fitness of captain Marc Guehi and Adam Wharton ahead of the club's final two Premier League fixtures of the 2024-25 season.

Both players helped the Eagles secure a memorable 1-0 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium last weekend, but were forced off in the second half with injuries.

Wharton missed Palace's FA Cup celebrations as he spent Saturday night in hospital before being discharged on Sunday after undergoing scans and checks as part of concussion protocols.

Guehi also missed celebrations immediately after the final as he was taken to hospital to receive treatment to his eye, with the defender avoiding any fracture to the eye socket.

Glasner has since confirmed that Wharton will miss Crystal Palace's remaining two league games at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday night and away to champions Liverpool on Sunday.

Guehi is also ruled out of the clash with Wolves, but there is a chance that the England international could return for their final trip of the season to Anfield.

"Adam and Marc will definitely miss tomorrow's game," Glasner told reporters at a press conference on Monday.

"Adam will also miss the Liverpool game - he had a concussion at the end [of the final]. Marc... let's see, maybe, for Liverpool - but both players will miss tomorrow's game."

Glasner has also discussed how difficult it could be for him to motivate his players for their remaining fixtures after a weekend of celebrations.

"I don't know, at the moment, to be honest," the Austrian laughed when asked about team news. "We cancelled Sunday's training and we'll train now after the press conference.

"We're looking forward to meeting all the players again, but of course I don't know how they will present today. It's now about finding the right motivation.

"We will have a meeting and talk about it, because it's nothing you can ask somebody to do, or say 'you have to'. We have to find the right commitment altogether: how we want to enter this week, and especially how we want to end this week - with two games to play - and we will talk about it, then let's see how well we can do this."

The absence of Wharton will likely see Daichi Kamada, Will Hughes and Jefferson Lerma all battle for a start in centre-midfield, while Lerma, Nathaniel Clyne and soon-to-be-departing club legend Joel Ward could all be in contention to replace Guehi in defence.

Crystal Palace currently sit 12th in the Premier League table with 49 points and they need just one more point from their final two matches to break their all-time points tally for a season in the division.
