Seeking to bounce back from their midweek Champions League exit, Manchester City welcome Premier League leaders Liverpool to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

After thrashing Newcastle United 4-0 in the top flight last weekend, the Citizens fell to a 3-1 defeat at Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League playoff tie on Wednesday night, losing 6-3 on aggregate.

Pep Guardiola's side are now focused on securing a top-four finish in the Premier League and come up against a title-chasing Liverpool side who drew 2-2 at Aston Villa on Wednesday.

Man City are set to be without influential midfielder Rodri for the rest of the season after he suffered knee ligament damage in a 2-2 draw with Arsenal in September.

However, the Spaniard offered a positive update on his recovery at the end of last year, setting a new target for when he wishes to return.

Manuel Akanji has undergone successful surgery on an abductor injury sustained on February 11 and the defender is set to remain sidelined until mid-April.

John Stones was forced off in the first eight minutes of City's midweek defeat to Real Madrid with a thigh injury and Guardiola has since confirmed that the defender is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines as he may require surgery.

Erling Haaland picked up a minor knee problem towards the end of City's win over Newcastle last weekend, and although he returned to training earlier this week, he was not fully fit to start against Real Madrid and watched on as an unused substitute. Guardiola has since confirmed that Haaland is a doubt for Sunday and will be assessed ahead of kickoff.
