Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. FC Midtjylland

Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Tuesday's Champions League meeting with FC Midtjylland.

Liverpool welcome FC Midtjylland to Anfield on Tuesday night for their first home game of their Champions League campaign.

The Reds edged to victory over Sheffield United on Saturday to make it back-to-back victories following their triumph at Ajax in their Champions League opener.

Jurgen Klopp was boosted by the early return of Alisson Becker in goal against the Blades, but he remains without a number of key players through injury.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the contest.

Virgil van Dijk

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Liverpool have won two from two since losing Virgil van Dijk to a knee injury, and will hope to cope just as well without their star defender for the remainder of the campaign with the Dutchman requiring what will likely be season-ending surgery.

Thiago Alcantara

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: October 31 (vs. West Ham United)

Thiago Alcantara was unable to feature at the weekend as he continues to feel the impact of Richarlison's red-card challenge from the Merseyside derby and, although he did escape serious injury, this match will come just too soon.

Naby Keita

Status: Out
Type of injury: Unspecified
Possible return date: October 31 (vs. West Ham United)

Naby Keita has been on the verge of a return for the past week or so without yet breaking back into Klopp's squad, and he has once again been ruled out for this one. The weekend meeting with West Ham could see him make his comeback, though.

Joel Matip

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: October 31 (vs. West Ham United)

Joel Matip, like Thiago, fell just short of recovering in time for the Sheffield United match and will again miss this one, although the form of Fabinho at centre-back has enabled Klopp to not rush him back.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

No date has yet been given for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's return, with the midfielder still recovering from a knee injury he sustained during pre-season.

Kostas Tsimikas

Status: Out
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: Unknown

Klopp has confirmed that summer signing Kostas Tsimikas will not be able to pay any part on Tuesday, but did insist that the full-back is getting "closer" to a return.
