Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Ajax

Liverpool injury, suspension list vs. Ajax

Liverpool will set out to secure their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League when they take a trip to the Johan Cruijff Arena to go head to head with Ajax on Tuesday.

The Reds, who have struggled for consistency in the Premier League this season, head into the game fresh off the back of a 1-0 loss against Nottingham Forest, just six days after their 1-0 victory over league champions Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp's men now turn their sights to the Champions League, where they kicked off their campaign with a 4-1 defeat against Napoli on September 7 before picking up three consecutive victories to sit second in Group A, six points off Tuesday's visitors.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their clash with Ajax, who have lost each of the previous three meetings between the teams since October 2020.

Luis Diaz

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: December 26 (vs. Aston Villa)

Luis Diaz suffered a severe knee injury in the 3-2 loss against Arsenal on October 9 and the Colombia international is not expected to feature for Klopp's side until after the World Cup.

Joel Matip

Status: Out Type of injury: Calf Possible return date: November 6 (vs. Tottenham Hotspur)

Joel Matip has also been out of action since the game against the Gunners earlier this month through a calf problem and the experienced defender is expected to continue his spell on the sidelines.

Naby Keita

Status: Out Type of injury: Thigh Possible return date: November 6 (vs. Tottenham Hotspur)

Naby Keita is yet to make an appearance for Liverpool this season due to a thigh injury that he sustained back in May, and while the 27-year-old midfield has returned to team training, he will play no part in Tuesday's game.

Ibrahima Konate

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Unknown Possible return date: October 26 (vs. Ajax)

Ibrahima Konate suffered an injury setback midway through the Champions League game against Rangers a fortnight ago but the Frenchman, who has missed the last three matches, could be fit in time for Tuesday's game.

Darwin Nunez

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Thigh Possible return date: October 26 (vs. Ajax)

Darwin Nunez was absent from the Saturday's matchday squad against Nottingham Forest after coming off with a slight injury shortly after the first half against West Ham United in midweek. However, the Uruguayan striker, who has three goals in seven league appearances, is expected to feature at the Johan Cruijff Arena on Tuesday.

Thiago Alcantara

Status: OUt Type of injury: Ear infection Possible return date: October 29 (vs. Leeds United)

Thiago Alcantara was also absent from the defeat at the City Ground on Saturday after he suffered an ear infection a few hours before kickoff, and Klopp has confirmed that he will miss out again on Wednesday.

Arthur Melo

Status: Out Type of injury: Thigh Possible return date: Unknown

Arthur Melo, who has made just one appearance for the Reds since his deadline-day loan move from Juventus, suffered a severe training ground injury and has been ruled out until the new year after undergoing surgery.

Diogo Jota

Status: Out Type of injury: Calf Possible return date: Unknown

Diogo Jota is another name on the Liverpool injury table after the Portugal international suffered a calf muscle problem against Manchester City last Sunday. The 25-year-old is set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines and will be another big-name absentee from the World Cup.
