Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers: 'Martin Skrtel fine after concussion'

Brendan Rodgers insists that Liverpool centre-back Martin Skrtel is "fine" after he appeared to be knocked out in the FA Cup quarter-final against Blackburn Rovers.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Martin Skrtel is "fine" after he appeared to be knocked out in the early stages of this afternoon's goalless FA Cup quarter-final with Blackburn Rovers.

The Slovakian centre-back seemed to lose consciousness after landing awkwardly from an aerial challenge with Rovers striker Rudy Gestede and received treatment on the pitch for seven minutes.

He was substituted after the prolonged stoppage but was alert by that point and signalled to the supporters that he was OK by raising both thumbs.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live after the match, Rodgers said: "Martin Skrtel is fine. He could have played on but you have to listen to the medical team and the experts and he is fine in the changing room.

"He fell heavily so there was a feeling he could have been knocked out or concussed but I'll leave that to the medical experts."

Championship side Blackburn frustrated the Reds at Anfield to earn a replay at Ewood Park, a date for which has not been set but could be as late as April.
