Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai will be at risk of an FA Cup semi-final suspension when the Reds face Manchester City in Saturday's quarter-final showdown at the Etihad.
Arne Slot's crop booked their tickets to the last eight of the competition with a routine 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, avenging their 2-1 defeat to the Old Gold in the Premier League a few days prior.
Szoboszlai completed the full 90 minutes of that game at right-back, having previously scored against both of Barnsley and Brighton & Hove Albion in the earlier rounds of the competition.
The 25-year-old also came through the latest round of international fixtures unscathed, and he is expected to take his rightful place in the XI in Saturday's lunchtime kickoff.
However, if Szoboszlai is not careful, he could run the risk of sitting out any possible semi-final at Wembley, alongside one of his teammates.
Why Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai could miss FA Cup semi-final
Szoboszlai picked up his first yellow card of the 2025-26 FA Cup in the fifth-round win at Wolves, meaning that he will miss any semi-final if he collects a second on Saturday.
For teams entering in the first round or later, players incur a one-game ban if they receive two yellow cards, before the slates are wiped clean in the semi-finals.
However, only players who are on a single yellow card after the quarter-finals start afresh; anyone who is cautioned for the second time in the tournament in the quarter-finals must still serve a suspension in the semis.
The rule ensures that players cannot miss the final through yellow-card accumulation, but Szoboszlai will have to tread carefully at the Etihad, as will teammate Joe Gomez.
The English defender is also on one FA Cup yellow card this season, having been cautioned in the third-round win over Barnsley, and there is a strong chance of him starting in the quarter-final.
Liverpool witnessed the luckless Jeremie Frimpong pick up yet another injury on Netherlands duty last month, although Arne Slot has expressed hope that the defender's withdrawal was just precautionary.
Could Liverpool have any injured players back for Man City?
At the time of writing, Frimpong has not been definitively ruled out of the FA Cup quarter-final, and the same goes for Mohamed Salah, who is "very close" to a return from his knock.
Slot has also declared Federico Chiesa available after the winger was forced to withdraw from the Italian national team, while Alexander Isak (leg) is training again but is not quite ready for a playing comeback.
Alisson Becker (muscle), Wataru Endo (ankle), Conor Bradley (knee) and Giovanni Leoni (knee) remain out of contention for Liverpool, but it is not all doom and gloom on the fitness front for Slot.
