Joe Allen insists that he and his Liverpool teammates are 'hurting' after crashing out of the FA Cup to League One side Oldham Athletic.

Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen has admitted that he and his teammates are 'bitterly disappointed' to have been knocked out of the FA Cup by League One side Oldham Athletic.

The Merseyside outfit succumbed to a 3-2 defeat at Boundary Park last night, which prompted manager Brendan Rodgers to question the performances of his young stars.

"Everyone in the dressing room is completely devastated," the Liverpool Echo quotes Allen as saying. "It's the worst feeling in football. To concede three goals in the manner we did was bitterly disappointing. We wanted to do well in the FA Cup but now we're out.

"I don't think we underestimated them. But, no disrespect to Oldham, when you've been knocked out by a team in League One then something has definitely gone wrong somewhere. It hurts and I feel sorry for the fans. When you are representing Liverpool, you represent them."

The Reds' defeat is the first time since 1959 that the club have lost an away FA Cup tie against a team at least two divisions below them.
