Liverpool draw Besiktas in Europa League

Liverpool have been drawn against Turkish side Besiktas in the last 32 of the Europa League.

Brendan Rodgers's men started the season in the Champions League, but their 1-1 draw with Basel last week confined the Merseysiders to a third-placed group finish, which saw them drop down into Europe's second-tier competition.

In today's draw in Nyon, the Reds were paired with Besiktas - a side that they defeated 8-0 in a Champions League group encounter back in 2007. On that evening, Yossi Benayoun scored a hat-trick, while Ryan Babel weighed in with a brace.

Elsewhere, Liverpool's Merseyside rivals Everton were pulled out of the hat alongside Swiss outfit Young Boys, while Tottenham Hotspur will take on Italian side Fiorentina.

There is also Serie A opposition in the form of Inter Milan for Scottish champions Celtic.

The first leg of those ties will be played on Thursday, February 19, 2015.
