Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp labels Divock Origi's performance against AC Milan in the Champions League "absolutely exceptional".

Divock Origi's performance against AC Milan in Wednesday's Champions League win has been hailed as "absolutely exceptional" by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Belgian striker was a surprise starter against the Rossoneri but put in a strong showing on the day, providing the assist for Mohamed Salah's second-half equaliser.

Origi was ultimately forced off with muscle cramps on the day, but his performance in Wednesday's 3-2 group-stage success has garnered significant praise from his manager.

Speaking to the media ahead of Saturday's game with Crystal Palace, Klopp said: "His performance was absolutely exceptional. We play a lot of games now and train pretty often.

"He was with us during the international break so he could train and show up. We could see it. That's why I decided to start him. His nice little chip for Mo was an incredibly important moment.

"He had cramps at the end of the game so we will see what that means for tomorrow, but he looked really good."

Origi's start against Milan was his first appearance for Liverpool in the 2021-22 season, and the 26-year-old remains contracted to the Reds until the summer of 2024.
