Jamie Vardy 'set to snub' Championship move as Leicester City striker outlines future plans

Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy is reportedly unwilling to sign for a Championship club, ruling Wrexham and Sheffield Wednesday out of the race for the forward.

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is reportedly set to reject any advances from Championship clubs this summer, amid links to Wrexham.

The 38-year-old is leaving the King Power Stadium at the end of the season at the expiration of his current deal, bringing the curtain down on a 12-year spell with the Foxes.

Since securing a switch from non-league Fleetwood Town for £1m in 2012, Vardy has arguably earned the status as Leicester's greatest ever footballer.

Turning 39 next January, the energetic forward has been linked with a switch across the Atlantic Ocean to a number of clubs in MLS in recent times.

Vardy is likely to play a major role in the final four matches of the season for Leicester, who host fellow relegated side Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

Vardy set to snub Championship move?

According to Sky Sports News, Leicester legend Vardy is beginning to formulate his exit strategy from the East Midlands following over a decade of stellar service.

The report claims that the veteran attacker is preparing to reject the advances of any Championship clubs ahead of the upcoming 2025-26 term.

It is understood that Vardy believes that he is still capable of contributing positively at a Premier League side as he approaches his 40th birthday in 2027.

Such an opinion would seemingly rule Ryan Reynolds's Wrexham out of the race for the attacker, with the Welsh club also linked to Kevin de Bruyne of Manchester City.

There were also suggestions that Vardy could return to boyhood club Sheffield Wednesday, who have established themselves in the second tier of late under Danny Rohl.

Can Vardy do a job in the Premier League next term?

Scoring 20 goals across all competitions during Leicester's title-winning campaign of 2023-24, Vardy is more than capable of providing plenty of value in the Championship at this point of his career.

However, there is an argument as to whether the 38-year-old can continue to perform on a weekly basis in arguably the greatest league in the world.

Without the sentimental factor of being a legend in the building, Vardy would struggle to cement a starting spot at any established clubs in the Premier League.
