Leeds United transfer news: Whites 'launch late move' for 'top money' attacker

'Top money' required to bring priority attacker to Leeds this summer

Leeds United are reportedly set to battle a number of other clubs for Leicester City attacker Bilal El Khannous.

The 21-year-old has played a bit-part role for the Foxes on their return to the Championship due to a host of transfer speculation.

El Khannous starred in the first match of the second-tier term, bagging two assists as Leicester defeated Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at the King Power Stadium,

However, the Moroccan has not provided a goal contribution since and sat out of the victory over Birmingham City on Friday night.

Since making the move from Belgian club Genk to the East Midlands in August 2024, El Khannous has played 39 games, scoring three times.

Leeds target expensive El Khannous move?

According to Football Insider, Leeds are looking to raid the Championship for one of its best attacking talents before the September 1 transfer deadline.

The report claims that the newly-promoted Whites are pushing ahead in attempts to sign playmaker El Khannous from Leicester.

It is understood that a potential move to Elland Road is back on the cards after the player's proposed switch to Crystal Palace collapsed earlier this week.

The 21-year--old was ready to sign on the dotted line for the FA Cup winners, who were unwilling to pay Leicester's asking price of £35m.

With both Leeds and Newcastle United supposedly still keen on El Khannous, the second-tier Foxes are said to be looking for 'top money' for the services of the attacker.

Embarrassment of Championship riches

On the wings against Birmingham on Friday night, Leicester could boast arguably the best two wide players in the Championship in the form of Abdul Fatawu and Stephy Mavididi.

The former opened the scoring for the Foxes inside 10 minutes, cutting inside in trademark fashion and firing past Blues goalkeeper Ryan Allsopp.

Should El Khannous stay put at the King Power Stadium past Monday night, Leicester would possess an attacking arsenal to the envy of the entire second tier.
