Leeds handed Assombalonga transfer boost?

Leeds United have reportedly been provided with encouragement in their bid to sign Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga.

With Eddie Nketiah having returned to parent club Arsenal, Marcelo Bielsa wants to bring in a replacement before the end of the January transfer window.

Given his record in the Championship and time out of the team during Middlesbrough's recent resurgence, Assombalonga appears to be a natural fit for the promotion chasers.

According to the Sunday People, the North-East outfit would welcome the opportunity to part ways with the 27-year-old, either on a loan or permanent basis.

Boro are said to be eager to reduce their wage bill in the coming days, with their focus on getting Assombalonga off the payroll.

The DR Congo international, who has netted six times from 20 outings this season, finds himself behind Ashley Fletcher and Lukas Nmecha in the pecking order.
