Leeds United held to a goalless draw by Barnsley at Elland Road

Leeds held by Barnsley in stalemate

Leeds United were unable to break down bottom-of-the-table Barnsley at Elland Road in a goalless Yorkshire derby.

In front of a packed crowd, Leeds looked to further dent their rivals survival hopes, but failed to force their way past Tykes keeper Jack Butland in a first half that finished all-square.

The home team continued to get efforts in at goal, with Ross McCormack seeing a couple of attempts blocked and saved in quick succession. The Leeds pressure continued to build, with Jack Butland being called into action on a number of occasions, but Brian McDermott's side failed to convert their chances.

As the Yorkshire derby looked set to be fizzle out, Marcus Tudgay's challenge was deemed as a straight red card offence by referee Keith Stroud, leaving Leeds with a one-man advantage for the final five minutes.

McDermott urged his side on, though they couldn't make the extra man count and Danny Wilson's men picked up a valuable point, though remain routed to the bottom of the table.
