Fulham defender Kostas Stafylidis apologises for red card

Fulham defender Kostas Stafylidis issues a formal apology to the club for his red card against Leeds United.

Fulham defender Kostas Stafylidis has issued an apology for his sending-off during the 3-0 defeat to Leeds United in the Championship.

The Greek, who was dismissed after picking up two yellow cards, was quick to express his regret to everyone connected with the club in the wake of the match.

"I want to apologise for the red card I received in last night's game. I let my emotions get the better of me against Leeds, and made the team's challenge to get back in the game even harder," he said in a statement on the club's website.

"We did not deserve to lose this match and I apologise to my manager, my teammates, the club staff and supporters for my actions.

"I'm also sorry that I won't be able to help the team when they go for the win at Huddersfield on Saturday but want to make the fans aware that I'm committed to helping the team in the remaining matches of the season."

The defeat to Leeds left Fulham in 21st place in the table, six points clear of the drop zone.
