Kilmarnock manager Kenny Shiels insists that he was content with a point following his side's 1-1 draw with St Mirren.

Kilmarnock manager Kenny Shiels has declared that he was pleased with his side's performance during their 1-1 draw with St Mirren in the Scottish Premier League.

Kris Boyd's second-half equaliser cancelled out Esmael Goncalves's opener at Rugby Park to keep Killie's hopes of European football alive, and Shiels believes his side were deserving of a point.

"It's not about making the top six, it's about progressing as a club," Shiels told BBC Sport.

"St Mirren is a fantastic team. I'm surprised that they haven't made the top six. It's good to get a point against a fantastic team."

The result leaves Killie in sixth place in the league table, one point ahead of Aberdeen and Dundee United below them.
