Kilmarnock manager Gary Locke: 'Staying up is nothing to celebrate'

After securing Scottish Premiership survival, Kilmarnock manager Gary Locke insists that his side should not have found themselves in a relegation battle this season.

Kilmarnock manager Gary Locke has insisted that his side has nothing to celebrate after maintaining their place in the Scottish Premiership with a 4-1 win against Partick Thistle.

The Killie boss said that he was relieved to avoid relegation, but is adamant that his team should not have been in such a precarious position to begin with.

"We got a bit of stick for some of our performances, but the boys showed when they get their game going they are a good team," BBC Sport quotes him as saying.

"But it is nothing to celebrate. We should have never been in this position.

"I'm just relieved to keep our place and I'm pleased for our players and the fans."

It is Motherwell who face a relegation playoff following their 2-1 defeat against bottom club St Mirren.
