Andrea Pirlo has been ruled out of Italy's third-place playoff against Uruguay at the Confederations Cup on Sunday through injury.

The Juventus midfielder is struggling with a muscular problem following the Azzurri's semi-final defeat to Spain on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Andrea Barzagli has been forced to miss the match with a tendon injury.

The latest withdrawals come after Mario Balotelli was sent home from the tournament in Brazil with a thigh strain.
