McCarthy: "We've let them off the hook"

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has bemoaned his side's failure to convert chances into goals against Leeds United this afternoon.

Despite trailing 1-0 at the break, the visiting Tractor Boys came out for the second half in positive mood and created a handful of opportunities.

However, they failed to take one of those and ended up losing the match 2-0.

"We were playing well second half, we were getting on top," McCarthy told reporters. "The crowd were giving it out to the Leeds players, the bench were starting to get animated and then we've let them off the hook.

"It goes up to our front players, but ends up coming back in our net. It was a great goal by them, but pretty poor from our point of view.

"It was a fabulous finish – quality – and that's the difference today. We've had our chances to set someone up or score, but they took their chances and we didn't."

The result has left McCarthy's men 20th in the Championship table.
