Walter Mazzarri: 'Fredy Guarin wanted to stay at Inter Milan'

Mazzarri: 'Guarin did not want to leave'

Inter Milan manager Walter Mazzarri has insisted that Fredy Guarin has always been desperate to stay at the club.

The Colombian midfielder was repeatedly linked with a move away from the San Siro, with Valencia reported to have been close to securing his services on transfer deadline day.

However, a move never materialised for Guarin, and Mazzarri is confident that the 28-year-old is relieved to still be with the Nerazzurri.

"He's always wanted to stay at Inter, and he was on the market because of management choices," Mazzarri told the club's official website. "However, I'm convinced he's very happy to have remained here and we're very happy to have him."

It has been suggested that Inter may sell Guarin in January to fund a move for Liverpool's Fabio Borini.
