Stuttgart climb above Hamburger SV with win

Stuttgart move out of the Bundesliga relegation zone with a 2-1 win over fellow strugglers Hamburger SV.

Stuttgart moved out of the relegation zone in the Bundesliga table with a 2-1 win against Hamburger SV this afternoon.

The visitors took the lead on 12 minutes when Gojko Kacar struck for his third goal in as many games.

Hamburg went in search of their second, but neither Pierre-Michel Lasogga or Marcell Jansen were able to find the target with shots from range.

Christian Genter levelled things up on 27 minutes when he squeezed a shot through Rene Adler's legs before going close with a long-range effort shortly after.

Martin Harnik then gave the home side the advantage 10 minutes before the break with a smart finish.

Daniel Didavi fired in a couple of quickfire shots from distance around the hour mark, and the second of the attempts forced Adler into a smart save.

Adler was once again called into action when he denied Tino Baumgartl's header, but it was Filip Kostic who came closest to making it 3-1 late on on.

The winger's effort looped over Adler only to hit the crossbar, but the 2-1 scoreline was enough for Stuttgart to move a point above the drop zone.

The defeat plunges the visitors into the bottom two after Freiburg stunned Bayern Munich.
