Genoa romp to victory against Cesena

Genoa score three goals before half-time as they ease to a 3-0 victory against Cesena in Serie A to extend their unbeaten run to eight games.

Genoa stretched their unbeaten run in Serie A to eight games by claiming a 3-0 victory away to Cesena this afternoon.

Alessandro Matri gave the visitors the lead in the fifth minute when he was released on goal by Andrea Bertolacci before placing a low effort into the corner past Nicola Leali.

Genoa added a second goal three minutes later when Luca Antonelli slotted in from close range after being found by Matri's clever back-heel.

Juraj Kucka smashed an effort against the crossbar, and Iago Falque curled a free kick just wide as the Rossoblu continued to create the better chances.

The visitors were then given a penalty after Bertolacci's shot was blocked by the hand of Stefano Lucchini, but Matri's spot kick was saved by Leali.

With two minutes remaining in the first half, Genoa scored a third as Nicolas Burdisso latched onto a poor clearance and rifled in a half-volley from the edge of the box that took a deflection off Massimo Volta on its way into the net.

The hosts were given the chance to pull a goal back when Burdisso fouled Alejandro Rodriguez inside the box, but Emmanuel Cascione smashed the resulting free kick against the post.

Genoa comfortably saw out the rest of the encounter to earn their fifth win in eight games and move up to third in the table.
