Gateshead boss Gary Mills 'disappointed' by manner of FA Cup exit

Gateshead manager Gary Mills admits that their 7-0 thrashing to West Bromwich Albion was "not a nice way" to end the Conference Premier side's FA Cup run.

Gateshead manager Gary Mills has admitted that their 7-0 hammering by West Bromwich Albion was "not a nice way" to end their FA Cup run.

The Conference Premier side held their Premier League opponents for 40 minutes before a Baggies blitz either side of the break put them to the sword.

Reported Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur target Saido Berahino scored four times to help Tony Pulis to a comprehensive win in his first game as Albion boss, and Mills has conceded that there was a gulf in class between the two teams.

"My players were superb in the first 40 minutes, but we conceded five in the space of 13 minutes and that is disappointing," Mills told reporters.

"Seven-nil-is not a nice way to get knocked out but that is what happens when you give the ball away at this level.

"I have to look at the positives for my team and I think that we kept the ball well. They were chasing us at times which is a great thing to see."

Gateshead beat Gainsborough, Norton United and Warrington Town en route to this stage of the competition.
