Fulham close in on the £6.4m signing of Wolfsburg's 27-year-old full-back Kevin Mbabu ahead of their 2022-23 Premier League campaign, according to a report.

Fulham have closed in on the signing of Wolfsburg full-back Kevin Mbabu ahead of their 2022-23 Premier League campaign, according to a report.

It was revealed that Marco Silva's side were closing in on a deal for the Switzerland international in recent weeks, as the Fulham boss continues to strengthen his side ahead of their return to the top flight.

Joao Palhinha and Andreas Pereira are the only two arrivals so far this summer, with the lack of activity said to have frustrated Silva earlier in the window.

However, a third new arrival is on the way in the form of Mbabu, according to the Daily Mail, who are reporting that a £6.4m deal to bring the 27-year-old to the Premier League is close to being sealed.

The report suggests that the full-back completed the second part of his medical for Fulham out in Portugal on Saturday.

Mbabu is expected to join up with his new teammates back in London on Monday, with Fulham also returning from Portugal following the conclusion of their pre-season tour.

Capped 22 times by Switzerland, Mbabu joined the Bundesliga side from Young Boys for around £8.1m in 2019, but after entering the final year of his contract in Germany, he is said to be seeking a new challenge.

During his three-year stay with Die Wolfe, he has made 82 appearances for the club across all competitions, but now looks set to return to the Premier League, having previously spent four years with Newcastle United earlier in his career.

However, following loan moves to Rangers and Young Boys, Mbabu left St James' Park in 2017 having made just five appearances for the first team.
