Fulham boss Martin Jol: 'We needed someone like Rene Meulensteen'

Fulham manager Martin Jol insists that he is "really pleased" that the club appointed Rene Meulensteen as the club's head coach.

Fulham manager Martin Jol has insisted that the club 'need' Rene Meulensteen's guidance following a poor start to the Premier League season.

The Cottagers appointed the Dutchman, who worked as assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United for six years, last week.

"I'm really pleased he's here," Jol said in a press conference. "I thought he was making a choice to go elsewhere - first to Germany and then Qatar. It was maybe by coincidence that I texted him again and he said that he'd come back to England.

"We needed something, more rhythm. We weren't playing with rhythm and we needed more energy. I thought we needed something and he's the right guy, but now we need the results. There's a new spirit and a good spirit."

Fulham will take on Swansea City at Craven Cottage tomorrow.
