Fulham have been granted permission by the Hammersmith & Fulham Council to expand Craven Cottage.
The West London outfit, who have resided at the ground since 1896, are hoping to build on their capacity by 4,300 seats to 30,000 as well as create a new upper tier on the Riverside Stand.
H&F Council leader Nicholas Botterill said: "Craven Cottage is the historic home of Fulham.
"This modest expansion, which will be carried out in a sensitive and sensible way, will allow the club to remain competitive in the top tier of English football. It will also remove the existing, rather ugly, Riverside Stand."
Meanwhile, Martin Jol's side are currently preparing for the new Premier League season and are due to take on Charlton Athletic in a friendly scheduled for August 11.
