A week after falling to PEC Zwolle in their Eredivisie opener, FC Twente welcome two-time defending league champions PSV Eindhoven on Sunday at De Grolsch Veste.
Peter Bosz's troops crushed Sparta Rotterdam in gameweek one, and they are favourites to beat this weekend's hosts, who have lost the last six meetings with PSV.
Match preview
Twente were probably hard done by after coming away from their league opener against PEC Zwolle with nothing despite a commendable goalkeeping performance from Tom de Graaff, whose four saves prevented Joseph Oosting’s team from scoring.
Failing to score was probably not surprising for the Reds’ supporters after seeing their team either net one or fail to score in their last four pre-season fixtures before competitive action — a 1-0 win over RKC Waalwijk, a goalless game with Schalke and two defeats to Porto (2-1) and Udinese (1-0).
Aiming to bounce back from their league-opening defeat, the Tukkers, who had the fifth-best home record in the Dutch top flight in 2024-25, are eager to find their goalscoring form.
Twente only lost three times at home in 17 matches last season — only PSV, Ajax and Heerenveen (all with one loss) lost fewer — highlighting their home strength.
However, their inability to beat PSV since September 2022 and falling to six defeats to the Eindhoven side does little to boost the home fans' optimism.
As for the travelling fans, there should be positivity ahead of another visit to Enschede, where they have not been beaten in back-to-back visits since their 2-1 loss in 2022.
Not only have the Peasants won 6-1 on aggregate across their last two visits, but they have also outscored Twente 16-4 in the past five league losses suffered against Boeren, underscoring PSV’s dominance in this fixture.
Having won the title last year in dramatic fashion, scoring six times on the opening day — all from different sources — shows they are not ready to ease off, sending shivers down their rivals’ spines as the season progresses.
Nonetheless, underlying statistics reveal that PSV's goals came from 50% of their 12 shots on target, emphasising their impressive finishing in week one.
Such efficiency may not be sustainable throughout the season; however, the historical record and Twente's goal-shy performances leave observers almost backing a positive outcome for Bosz's side.

While Twente emerged unscathed in the opening round, Sam Lammers remains a doubt due to injury as he nears a return from a dislocated shoulder.
Despite ending on the losing side, left-back Mats Rots played commendably in the defeat at PEC Zwolle, winning 12 of 16 duels, and the teenager aims to be as commanding against the defending champions.
Like their hosts, PSV have no injured players to worry about, suggesting Bosz may keep the same lineup from last weekend.
While PSV had six different goalscorers, Ivan Perisic and Joey Veerman both assisted two goals each in the commanding victory, and both men aim to make further decisive contributions.
Also noteworthy in week one was centre-back Yarek Gasiorowski, who scored and assisted, although he is not expected to sustain that level of productivity.
FC Twente possible starting lineup:
Unnerstall; Rooij, Propper, Lemkin, Rots; Zerrouki, Belt; Bergen, Verschueren, Brooth; Van Wolfswinkel
PSV Eindhoven possible starting lineup:
Kovar; Dest, Flamingo, Gasiorowski, Junior; Veerman, Schouten, Saibari; Perisic, Plea, Van Bommel
We say: FC Twente 1-3 PSV Eindhoven
While Bosz’s approach often leaves his teams vulnerable, goal-shy Twente should still expect to score against the defending champions on Sunday.
However, the Reds will struggle to resist PSV’s attacking strength, and Boeren are expected to secure maximum points due to their superior match-winning quality.
