Steven Pienaar linked with Sunderland switch

Sunderland are allegedly lining up a bid for Tottenham Hotspur's Steven Pienaar.

The midfielder impressed during a six-month loan spell with Everton, but the Blues may not have the funds to bring him back to Goodison Park on a permanent basis.

Spurs rate the South African international at £5m, and Sunderland have transfer funds readily available, the Daily Mail understands.

Pienaar scored four goals for David Moyes's side in 14 outings this season.
