Roberto Martinez: 'Everton finished season strongly'

Everton manager Roberto Martinez praises his team for finishing the season strongly after seeing off Hull City 2-0 to end the campaign in fifth place.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has praised his team for maintaining their standards and finishing strongly in the Premier League following a 2-0 win against Hull City.

The Toffees signed off their campaign by seeing off this year's FA Cup finalists at the KC Stadium thanks to goals from James McCarthy and Romelu Lukaku.

Martinez told reporters after the game: "It's been a demanding campaign but the players maintained their standards. The team made sure we finished strongly with 15 clean sheets and 72 points.

"It's been a remarkable season, and it's been really exciting seeing young players growing. The Europa League is the step we need to see how far we can go as a football club."

Everton end the 2013-14 Premier League campaign in fifth place, securing a European berth next season.
