Martinez accuses referee of "killing" game

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has accused referee Jonathan Moss of "killing" the game in his side's 3-1 defeat to Manchester City.

Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku had fired the Toffees to a 1-0 lead, before their advantage was nullified almost immediately courtesy of Alvaro Negredo, with Sergio Aguero adding another before the interval.

There was a moment of controversy on 70 minutes after Moss awarded a penalty against Seamus Coleman, which Aguero scored via a deflection off Tim Howard.

However, Martinez is adamant that the hosts should not have been afforded the opportunity to kill off the contest.

"The game wasn't controlled at all by the referee," he told Sky Sports News. "If that is a penalty, it's an impossible game - it should never have been a penalty.

"I think that it was an emotional decision from the referee and I think he killed a very good game for both sides."

The defeat was Everton's first in the Premier League this season, while City climb up to third in the table following the victory.
