Ronald Koeman "very disappointed" with defeat

Everton boss Ronald Koeman 'could not believe' that his team suffered a 2-1 defeat to Burnley in Saturday's Premier League clash.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman has revealed his disappointment after watching his team suffer a 2-1 defeat to Burnley in Saturday afternoon's Premier League clash at Turf Moor.

The two teams were level at 1-1 entering the final stages of the contest, but Burnley secured all the points courtesy of midfielder Scott Arfield's 90th-minute strike.

Koeman has admitted that he 'could not believe' that his team suffered their second defeat of the season, which has seen the Toffees remain in sixth position in the Premier League table.

"We are very disappointed, the feeling is that we should win. We did many good things but the result is hard to take. It's one of those days where you can't believe you lost the game, but it's football," Koeman told BBC Sport.

"It's hard to take but sometimes football is unfair – they had one shot and we did not deserve to lose. We started well but dropped back and then the goal was unlucky. But we had a good reaction, and had some good chances in the second half.

"You can always do things better and we must work hard and improve, but it's difficult against a side with good defensive organisation. We scored though and then you expect at least one point. I don't say that we need to win because you have to deserve to score, but we have come back with no points."

Everton will attempt to return to winning ways when they welcome West Ham United to Goodison Park next weekend.
